Back of Tanuki's Cave

This is the back of the excellent Tanuki’s Cave and Kura cafes behind Auckland’s Queen Street. Sketched with Urban Sketchers Auckland last weekend. Sadly they weren't yet open when we finished, frozen and in need of a hot sake!

So fun to draw all the old bricks, flaky paint etc, especially on the kraft paper. Really nice that everything in this city isn’t completely redeveloped, shiny and corporate

Character Buildings

Back of the Gables, former old military hospital on hill at Brooklands.  We've always sketched the chocolate box frontage but the lesser seen back has just as much character.

A character home near Boys High and the Race Course.  Kids peered out the front door yelling back inside 'they're painting our house'.  Something a little more formidable than we actually were doing.  Although one of us was a former Painter & Decorator!
